LA Kids Consignment is excited to support LA Diaper Drop at our Fall 2009 sale.

Since LA Kids Consignment was founded in 2004, we have been donating thousands of items from each sale to 9 different Los Angeles charities.   In addition to these clothing, toys, books, shoes, etc. donations, LA Kids will now be collecting diaper donations during the sale.   These donations will go directly to Los Angeles families through the LA Diaper Drop program.

The LA Diaper Drop program consists of three new moms in the Los Angeles area: Amanda Lasher, Megan Dobkin, and Kristin D'attilo. It began when Amanda Lasher read an article about how the rate of severe diaper rash among underprivileged babies has soared, due to the fact that the mommies simply don't have enough diapers to change every dirty one. You only need to be a mommy to understand the sadness and frustration of knowing that your baby could get relief if you only had one more diaper. So, the three mommies set up diaper drops at four locations around town where mommies can come and drop off their opened bags of diapers that their babies have since outgrown (or new diapers they just want to donate).

The moms then collect the diapers and bring them to the L.A. Mission.  The LA Mission has a makeshift daycare center where mommies in need can come with their babies during the day. They stock the daycare center and distribute the overflow to the mommies and also to the Mission's neighboring shelters.

Lasher, Dobkin, D'attilo have been doing it for 6 months, it so far has been a great success, and they pledge to keep the runs to the Mission going as long as there are diapers to be dropped.

Note: All sizes are welcome and needed, but for those of you who are buying diapers to donate (as opposed to donating opened packages your child has outgrown), the Mission has indicated a specific need for larger sizes (3T-5T), as many of the homeless children they help don't get potty trained until much later).

For more information about the program, you can contact Megan Dobkin at megandobkin@aol.com or Amanda Lasher at alasher73@yahoo.com.
